Made another nova. The shockwave hasn't even reached the farthest away planet, which is too small to be seen on this low res image, as it was only a few pixels wide. The bipolar outflows from the star are gamma bursts, which pierce the main shock front.
I think this one is a little better than the first one I made, reminds me a lot of star trek generations if you have seen the nova in that film.

Original size is 16 times bigger than this. 6144^2

Beautiful. I love how the title forecasts the doom coming to the planets of this star. It requires you to know whats happening in the picture.

I had a quick question! I've been toying with the idea of re-creating the scene from Generations where the Amargosa star explodes, and I was just curious what tools you used to create the explosion in your picture?

I'd be sure to link back to you to give you credit.

I layer many fractals which I have made in Apophysis, then I spherize them and add a layer mask so that only the edges will be visible. :)

Wow, you have no idea how much I love this. It reminds me so much of that scene in A beautiful mind when Nash tells a man that there's a mathematical explanation for how ugly his tie is . Anyway, beautiful depiction. The blue is truly magical.
